【Abstract】 Methyl p-hydroxycinnamic acid (1),an important intermediate for synthesizing the ultra-short-acting β-adrenergic receptor blocking agent,esmolol, was prepared from p-hydroxybenzenaldehyde (2) via condensation with malonic acid followed by esterification with the overall yield of 74.2％.
