Geographic Information Systems as the Basis for Land Use Assessment and Soil and Water Conservation Planning——A Case Study at Tuapka Farm,New Zealand
【Abstract】 This study involves the use of traditional field mapping to prepare a physical resources inventory and a land use capability assessment on a typical hill country in the North Island of New Zealand, and combined with an ARC/INFO to develop an easily managed physical resources base on which rapid interpretations can be made for planning sustainable development and soil and water conservation of a farm environment. The study results show that the land use capability assessment techniques combined with ARC/INFO geographic information systems as well as re- mote sensing technology, can be used to provide a useful tool for land use assessment and soil and water conservation planning at farm level.
