【Abstract】 Some major poplar diseases in Italy are briefly described in this paper,includingthe incidence, development and control of poplar diseases at different stages in the course ofpoplar cultivation in Italy. Wood loss at the outbreak stage of several major diseases is alsorelated. In view of disease and insect control, chemical control, biocontrol and adversity re-sistant tree breeding are discussed, and a long range program with disease resistance breed-ing as the predominant way of control is proposod. In order to thoroughly resolve the prob-lem of poplar disease, disease resistant tree breeding should be made with a definite purpose,gene should be repeatedly improved, and the production units should be frequently suppliedwith new disease resistant clones. The historical review of poplar disease in Italy and thecurrent status of cultivation of poplars introduced from Italy into China aims at learning theadvanced experience nd avoid the roundabout way taken by other countries so that poplarinsect and disease can be controlled.更多还原
