【Abstract】 To discuss the important non-biological factors concerning the intellectual development of chil-dren, 429 junior middle school pupils (200 males, 229 females) aged 12～15 in Gingxian County,Henan Province were given the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (Revised) test,and an exten-sive family and school interview was carried out to determine the variables which were suspected to berelated to the intellectual development of children. The results of univariate-analysis showed that theintellectual development of children was markedly related to the following factors:sex,occupation andeducation of their parents and the people who looked after the children,the early education of children,investment in intelligence,character temperament of the pupils, etc. Five variables obtained from thecluster analysis of 15 biological factors were treated as the controling variables of biological factors. 50non-biological factors were analysed with stepwise regression analysis.
