【Abstract】 A new spectrophotometry for the determination of phosphorus (yellow phosphorus) in water or waste water is proposed. It is based on the extracted yellow phosphorus by n-heptanle and the reaction of phosphorus with nitrate silver solution to form bright yellow colour, and the determinatiom of phosphorus by spectrophotometry. The detection limit of yellow phosphorus is 0. 01μg, the relative standard deviation is 0%-8% (n = 2-4) ,the recovery is 88%-100%.
