【Abstract】 The Yellow River is the second biggest river in our country and has being well known for its frequent disaster and easy collapse of its banks. Nowadays, there still are serious water and soil loss in its middle, reaches and menace of flood in lower reaches. It is said in this paper: Sediment is the source of the Yellow River disaster and the law of the Yellow River is determined by the law of its sediment. Soil erosion resulted in land deterioration and a slow development of economy in the area of middle reaches and the sediment siltation has raised the river bed in its low reach increasing the danger of flood damage. According to the anlysis in this paper, the cause of the Yellow River disaster appears mainly in two ways: a) the unbalance of relation between water, silt and human activity in the middle reach area; b) the unbalance of relation between runoff, sediment and course of the river.Regarding the Yellow River control, a three -step strategy of lower - middle - lower reaches should be taken. The first step: increasing anti -flood capacity of dykes and making full use of sediment to improve the soil. The second step: soil conservation in middle reaches. The third step: solidifying river facies and developing navigation. The Yellow River will be controlled within 100 - 150 years when the three-step strategy be used, then it will be famous for its tameness and benefits to people.更多还原
