【Abstract】 The rationale and methods in ecological wood science research are still developing. The authors thought that in research scope an emphasis should be given to a combination among subjects, methods, estimation and measurement. The identification of wood quality variation should be put in first priority in the project implimentation. The principles of technical design should be reliable, flexible and simple. The methods used with Cupressus funibris are a combination of random sampling embbeded with typical orthogonal analysis, progressive regression, growth ring analysis, model estimation.
