【Abstract】 The present paper deals with a new species of Caridina collected in deep ground water from Yongshun County, Hunan in 1989. The type specimens are kept in the Hunan Agricultural College. The diagnosis of the new species is given as follows,Caridina ablepsia sp. nov. (Figs. 1— 9)Rostrum reaches from the end of the first. segment to the end of the second segment of the antennular peduncle. The dorsal border bears 10—24 teeth, 1—9 of which are placed on carapace behind orbital margin. The ventral border bears 2—8 teeth. The anterolateral angle has no pterygostomian spine.The ratio (length,width) of (1) carpus of 1st and 2nd peraeopod are 1.6-2.3 and 4.3-5.6. (2) propodus of 3rd and 5th peraeopod to dactylus are 5.4-7.5 and 4.8-5.7. (3) dactylus of 3rd and 5th peraeopod are 2.4-2.9 and 3.2-3.9. The daetylus of 3rd and 5 th peraeopod bears 4—6 (most commonly 5) and 30-52 spinules respectively.The endopod of the 1st pleopod of male is suboval in shape, and wider proximally. The appendix interna reaches the extremity of the endopod. The appendix masculina of second pleopod is rodshaped, its inner and distal borders bear one row of stout spine.Remarks, The new species is allied to Caridina dianchiensis Liang et Yah, but differs from the Inter in the following features, 1. The eye is rudimentary, and without any pigment; 2. Rostrum short, the distal of dorsal border is provided with teeth; 3. The inner border of the endopod of the 1st pleopod is slightly dilated at middle, and the outer border of it bears long plumose setae; 4.
