【Abstract】 The present paper deals with the description of a new species of parasitic Balantidium from the freshwater fishes of China. Measurements are in microns. Type specimens are deposited in the Department of Biology, Southwest China Normal University and Chongqing Normal College.Balantidium procypri sp. nov. (figs. 1-4)Host Procypris rabaudi (Tchang)Location middle and hind intestineLocality Qujiang River, Down Town(30°50’N, N,6°58’E) and Shanhui Town(31°02’N, 107°09’E), Quxian County, Sichuan ProvinceDate July 6, 1982, May 16, 1984 and May 8, 1986Description: inverse-pyriform, 204-312 in length, 112-136 in width; Vestibule located at the anterior end, strip-pocket-shaped cytostome at its base; dense longitudinal ciliary rows extend from the cytostome, uniform and complete; shuttle-shaped macronucleus 52.5×16.8, mi-cronucleus 5.7×3.7.Description based on 14 specimens.This new species resembles Balantidium barbi, but it differs from the latter in its inverse-pyriform shape, strip-pocket-form of the cytostome, shuttle-form of macronucleus and size of body.更多还原
