【Abstract】 Considering the shortcomings of the clay suspending agent for enamel slip, the alumina gel-xanthan gum-bantonite composite colloidal suspending agent (AXB) was investigated by means of cross experiments. The results indicated that the AXB slip could entirely satisfy technological requirements, and glazo properties were even better than clay’s ones.By means of the SEM, DTA, IRAS, the suspension mechanism of AXB and corresponding enamel slip construction were studied in detail. It was theorized that the combined effects of charged alumina colloidal particles, the needle-like contraction of the organic high-polymer substance (xanthan gum) and the surf ace ion-exchange of montmori-llonite made frit particles suspend stably in water.
