【Abstract】 Breeding area and territorial behavior in a marked population of plateau pika(Och-otona curzoniae) were studied over a 3 -year breeding period,1985-1987 in Heimahe of Qinghai Lake.Plateau pika is a characteristic steppe dwelling pika. They stay relatively close to their burrow system and live colonially in family groups. The home range is an area over which a family member commonly roams,but does not necessarily defend.Territory is an area less than their home range, frequently used and defended by the parents.During the breeding season female-male,suggesting a system of pairing,establish a new family and a home range. Maintenance of territories is enhanced by affiliative behaviors, long calling, scent-marking, and aggressive behaviors (chasing,fighting), and aggression is greater among males than females.更多还原
