【Abstract】 A strain of Streptomyces NO. 547 was isolated from a soil sample collected from Kangding prefecture, Sichuan Province. A depsipeptide antibiotic 547C was isolated from its fermentation broth. The aerial mycelium of the producing strain is straight. Through electron-microscopic observation, the spore surface is spiny. Its culture characteristic is very conformable with Streptomyces ostreogriseus in mor- phology described in the literature, but different from this known species and varieties in cultural and physiological characters.The physico-chemical properties.e. g. UV, IR, H-NMR, C-NMR as well as EI-MS of Antibiotic 547C are identical with data of Virginiamycin M, reported in the literatures.Antibiotic 647C posseses strong action on Gram positives and Hela cells in vitro.
