【Abstract】 Mass transfer in a flat plate membrane oxygenator was studied and a convective mass transfer model for instantaeous reversible oxygenation of Cassonian fluid was presented. Numerical solution of the model can be obtained with finite difference method. When a Cassonian fluid was reduced to a Newtonian fluid, theoreti- cal results of physical absorption conform pretty well with those found in the literature. ★Pig blood was chosen for the experimental work. Experimental results agreed well Lith theoretical com- putations in which the blood was regared as both Newtonian and Cassonian fluid respectively. Linear deviations in theoretical computations were observed when blood was treated either as a Cassonian fluid or a Newtonian fluid. It is, therefore, suggested that blood can be regared as being Newtonian fluid.
