【Abstract】 Ten young rabbits were divied into 5 groups (2,4,8,12 and 16 weeks), two in each group Perichondrium around the epiphyseal plate at the distal end of the radius of right fore-leg was partially excised to observe its effect on the growth of the long bone, In all groups except the 2-week group, growth at the distal end of the radius was observed to have slowed clown markedly (P<0.02) and the length of the radius was shorter in the operated than in the control side. Some portions of the plate of the operated side showed premature. It suggests that in the perichondrium around the epiphyseal plate, especially in the groove of there could be some cells related to the growth of the long bone.
