THE CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF ACTIVATED COAGULATION TIME (ACT) MONITORING DURING EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION
【Abstract】 The adequacy of anticoagulation and the precision of portamine neutralization at the conclusion of extracortoreal circulation were studied in 40 patients undergoing open-heart surgery. These patients were monitored by means of activated coagulation time (ACT) to creat a dose-response curve, from which appropriate dose of heparin and portamine was ca-lculated and administered. This study proves that the dose-response curve is a simple and reliable predictor for adequate control of heparin and portamine administration during and after extracorporeal circulation. It is also valuable in the prevention of various pre-opera-tive and post-operative complications commonly encountered in our daily practice
