【Abstract】 Poacynum hendersonii and Apocynum venetum are two wild speciesknown collectively in China as Luo-bu-ma and used for fiber or medicalherb.The seeds of these species are very small,weighing only about 0.5grams per thousand kernels. When the seeds are stored under ordinaryconditions, their germinating power will decrease rapidly over a summer.The purpose of this study is to find out the best conditions for thestorage of the seeds of these species.The result obtained over a period of 20 years indicated that lowmoisture content and the strictly closed condition in sealed containerswere the two most important conditions necessary for the good storageof the seeds of these species.Seed samples with 3-6% moisture content,kept in sealed containers could retain 60-83% of their germinatingpower after 15 years in storage,whereas high quality seed stored underthe same conditions could remain 70-80% germinable after 20 years.The vigour of the seed samples did decrease slightly after 20 yearsin storage, but the germination appeared normal,and the emergencewas not seriously handicapped.更多还原
