【Abstract】 The work on the ratio of the gross photosynthetic material lost by photorespiration was carried out. The results showed that the highest theoritical ratio of the gross photosynthetic material lost by photorespiration （based on the glycolate and glycerate pathway of photorespriation）is 1/10.The theoritical ratio under common air conditions was 1/70 （1.4%）. So the theoritical ratio of the gross photosynthetic material lost by photorespiration ranged from l/70 to 1/10. （but the ratio reported generally from 1/4 to 7/20, some up to 1/2） The ratios of the gross photosynthetic material lost by photorespiration in four varieties----winter wheat, tobacco, maize and Jobs tears were 34.27%, 31.1%, 13.4% and 14.1% respectively （measured by the way of CO₂ sudden release）. These results showed that the theoritical and measured ratios differed significantly. So it enlightened us that some other pathways for photorespiration or more pathways to produce glycolate （substrate for photorespiration） probably exist in green parts of plants.更多还原
