【Abstract】 This experiment was designed to study the pituitary-removing effect on the thyroid hormone release. A preliminary investigation on the role of recurrent laryngeal nerve in regulating thyroid hormone release was made. In addition, we evaluated the influence of acute cold stimulus and persistent illumination on thyroid hormone secretion in rats. The results showed that T4 level in serum from pituitary-removed rats remained normal 1~11 days following surgery, then declined progressively, and a persistent exposure to light might contribute to the maintenance of the normal level of thyroid hormone in pituitary- removed rats. Recurrent laryngeal nerve might inhibit thyroid hormone release. Acute cold stimulation of thyroid hormone release is related to hypothalamo -pituitary-thyroid complex.
