【Abstract】 The purpose of this paper is to make a quantitative study of such a mechanism,by which a substantial net(timeaveraged)transport of sus- pended matters can be brought in a purely alternating tidal current on the basis of the simplest possible assumption. It can be shown from this study that the net transport is mainly caused by the action of the inward flow at the flood tide and the outward flow at ebb tide during a whale tidal period,and that about one fourth of the sediment carried by the above mentioned flows may be left in the harbour.This result is qiute consistent with the coefficient(which was 0,24)of silt transportation observed in Gulf of ST.Lawrence.更多还原
