【Abstract】 Hyperthermia is mainly on exencephalic teratogen, whereas thiadiazole mainly produces tail malformations. These two kinds of teratogens were used in the study of synergistic teratogenic effects on embryo development. The pregnant Swiss strain mice were divided into 4 groups, namely, experimental group, hyperthermia control group, thiadiazole control group and normal control group. The pregnant mice were heated by immersing their abdo men and thorax in a water bath at 42-42.5℃ for 13 minutes on day 8 of gestation. The procedure was repeated 6 hours later. On day 9 and 11, subcutaneous injections of 0.5% thiadiazole solution were given in doses of 30mg/kg and 40mg/kg respectively. In the ex perimental group, the teratogenic rate was 85.2%. The absorbed embryo and still embryo rates were 27.6% and 17.1% respectively, and the embryo growth retardation is aggravated. The difference between the experimental group and the three control groups was highly significant. In consideration of many birth defects with causes not yet known, the authors suggest that a few minor texatogens should have synergistic effects, though they do not cause birth defects alone.
