【Abstract】 The Issue of the West European Security discussed in this article is a much wider political concept than defence is. The author maintains that western Europe has been in peace, coupled with cleague confrontation, since the 2nd World War, and that its issue of security can not be divorced from the premise of Russo-American contention. Therefore, the author concludes that theories concerning the West European security must be suited to the characteristics of this period. Numerous works have already been published discussing the issue of the West European security and in the author’s opinion, they can be roughly summed up as the following three corresponding pairs so far as their contents are concerned: security and alliance, security and parity and security and detente. Owing to the fact that Western Europe is unable to establish a unified defence capable of contending with that of the two superpowers, all the three pairs mentioned above are indispensable whereas each pair contains its own unstable elements. The present security in Western Europe is an unstable security and a security in deadlock. It is impossible for a radical change of this unstable security in Western Europe unless the military competition comes to an end between the superpowers and the confrontation eases up among military blocs.更多还原
