【Abstract】 The comparative effectiveness of three hypolipidemic drugs (Xue Zhi Ping compositus, Alfalfa saponins and B. pseudomonas 16 zu) on lowering serum lipid levels and preventing aortic atherosclerosis in cholesterol-feeding rabbits was evaluated.Except that it could effectively prevent atherosclerosis in animals, Xue Zhi Ping Co. produced a significant reduction in the mean value of serum Tc level, but a marked increase of serum HDL-C/Tc (%). Difference in lesion coverage on the intima surface and in concentrations of Tc, Fc, CE and CE/Tc (%) between the aorta of the atherogenic control and those treated with Xue Zhi Ping Co. was statistically significant. Alfalfa saponins was found to be effective in lowering serum and liver triglyceride levels, but its potency on atherosclerotic lesion was lower than that of the first drug. Anti-atherogenic efficacy of B. pseudomonas 16 zu was much less than that of the former two.更多还原
