【Abstract】 This paper reports the outdoor biting cycle of Culex tritaeniorhynchus in human baits at Jiangyia, Gili Gounty, Hunan Province during Aug. lst to Sept. 17th, 1984. 1. The mosquitoes Culex tritaeniorhynohus bite actively at dusk with only one clear peak appearing within 1 hour after sunset. This peak followed closely the time of sunset. 2. The pattern of biting rhythm of Culex tritaeniorhynchus was influenced obviously. by the lunar phase. A sharp peak was found in new moon nights, while the activity of mosquitoes was at a lower level after that. In the full-moon nights, however, the dusk peak was less prominent, but the activity of mosquitoes remained at a relatively higher level for a long time. 3. Although mosquitoes biting at dusk had a significantly lower parous rate than those biting before dawn, the former was more important in transmitting diseases on account of the higher biting rate.更多还原
