【Abstract】 Prediction of the longshore transport rate is very important in the erosion-deposition research work on beaches.In the engineering practice,the measured data are usually expressed in terms of deep or intermediate water wave characteristics:the average height of the highest 1/10 of the waves, the mean wave period and the mean incident angle.Using which of the deep water characteristics to compute the breaking wave characteristics and then the longshore transport rate is a problem yet not being clarified.
