【Abstract】 The present work with the dynamic consideration, gives a discussion on the driving mechanism of pake movements. At the same time we investigate the velocity of plate movements and advance a formula for calculating the extension velocity, and thus give the spreading rate of different types of plate movements. This formula indicates that the main driving forces of plate movement are caused by the lateral extension associated with the intrusion of magmas at mid-ocean ridges, while the, resistance is offered by the force due to the viscocity of mantle below the plates. Besides, oceanic plate is also acted by driving force originating from descending slabs beneath marginal seas and the viscous resistance on both sides of them.The plate spreading rate evaluated with this formula is pretty close to that of actual survey. Therefore, this will be quite beneficial and significant to investigate the driving mechanism of plate movements.更多还原
