【Abstract】 It is well known that excess amount of iron in the fermentation broth exertsa toxic effect on the biosynthesis of penicillin and may decrease the fermentationyield."Masking" conception was applied,and three groups of compounds wereselected from a series of organic compounds containing acetic acid or sulfonicacid groups,which would cast no influence on the development and metabolismof mould and could eliminate the toxic effect of excess iron in biosynthesis ofpenicillin,so as to restore the fermentation yield to the normal level.
