【Abstract】 54 specimens of endometrium of women using inert-IUDs and 67 normal controlswere studied quantitatively for cytoplasmic estradiol receptors（E₂R）and progesteronereceptors（PR）with dextran coated charcal（DCC）assay.The Scatchard analysisshowed that the Kd of E₂R and PR was both of the 10^-9M level.Statistically,there wasno difference between the 37 specimens of endometrium of the test group without his-tologic changs and the control group.This accounts for that the effect of inert-IUDsis not by its interference with the E₂R and PR.Stroma cells of 17 of the 54 specimens from the test group became spindle shapedand fibrotic.Fourteen of wich were obtained from areas of endometrium directly com-pressed by IUDs.E₂R and PR values found in the mid and late proliferative stage ofendometrium with spindle-shaped cell changes and fibrosis were distinctly lower thanthat of the controls and those with normal endometrial findings.This might be a fac-tor enhancing the contraceptive activity of inert-IUDs.Comparing cases having usedinert-IUDs（stainless steel ring）over 10 years with those under 10 years,we foundno significant differences between them with respect to the stroma cell changes aswell as the two receptor contents.Our results support the view that the duration ofinert-IUDs（stainless steel ring）as a contraceptive can last more than 10 years.更多还原
