【Abstract】 The present paper deals with the Chinese species of Galerucinae belonging to the genus Japonitata Strand. Twelve Species are recorded of which nine are described as new. Their distinguishing characters are summarized in the following key. The type specimens are kept in the:Institute of Zoology, Acadcmia Sinica. Key to Chinese Species1(8) Elytra yellow to yellow-brown; pronotum less than twice as broad as long2(5) Metasternum black, head and pronotum similarly coloured as elytra! each elytron usually with three humeral costae3(4) Four basal segments of abdomen blacki ♀: apex of last sternite with a small angular incision inthe middle. Length: 6-7mm., breadth: 3.5-3.8mm. -- Xizang: Gyirong, Zham J. tricostata Chen et Jiang4(3) Abdomen entirely yellow-brown; ♀: last sternite truncate at apex. Length: 5.5-6.5mm., breadth: 3-3.8mm. -- Xizang: Gyirong; Nepal J. eberti (Kimoto)5(2) Metasternum and abdomen yellow-brown; each elytron with two humeral costae6(7) Head black, prothorax and elytra yellow-brown. Length: 5-6mm., breadth: 2.5-3.2mm.--Sichuan: Emci shan, 1800-1900m ]. nigricept sp. nov.7(6) Head and prothorax black, elytra pale yellow. Length: 4.4-4.8mm., breadth: 2.3-2.4mm.--Fujian: Jianyang, 290-320m; Shaanxi: Huashan J. bipartita ap. nov.8(1) Elytra piceous, black or metallic; pronotum about three tims or at least not less than twice as broad as long9(14) Each elytron with two humeral costae10(11) Antennae(♂)with the four terminal segments characteristically modified (fig.l); upper surface red-piceous to pitchy-black, with a metallic sheen.Length 4-4,5mm., breadth: 2.4-2.8mm.--Sichuan; Emei shan, 1800-2100m J. antennata sp, nov.11(10) Antennae not so modified, filiform, with the two terminal segments milky white; upper surface bluish bronze12(13) Pronotum about twice as broad as long; legs pale yellow. Length: 5.5mm., breadth: 3.4mm.--Yunnan: Cheli, 600m J. picea sp. nov.18(17) Upper surface metallic green, blue, violet, purple or bronze; last abdominal sternite more or less imprassed with fossettes19(20) Elytra metallic purple; head and pronotum deep blue-violet; antennae entirely black; ♂: 4th abo-dominal sternite with an inserted heart-shaped projection in the middle, last sternite foveolate oneach side besides the median longitudinal fossette(fig.3). Length: 6mm.,breadth: 3mm.--Yunnan:Jijiang J. cordiformas sp. nov.20(19) No such combination of characters21(22) Head and pronotum shining black; elytra; violet-purple; antennae black, the two basal segments stained with red-brown; ♂: 4th abdominal sternite raised in the middle, forming a triangular projection above the basal fossette of the last sternite. Length: 5mm., breadth: 2.75mm. --Yunnan J. unicoatata (laboiaaiere)22(21) Upper surface deep blue-violet, elytra sometimes deep purple; antennae black, the two terminal segments sometimes fuscous; ♂: 4th abdominal sternite (tig. 4) erect in the middle, forming a crcscent-haped wall along the posterior border of the basal triangular fossette of the last abdominal sternite (fig. 5).
