【Abstract】 Lactate Dehydrogenase Isoenzyme-x(LDHx)is a specific enzyme of spermatozoa andsperm.The“band-x”appeared in a major area of LDH activity between LDH3 and LDH4 onLDH electrophoretic pattern.The polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(PAGE)pattern of the LDHx of adult humansperm from 52 cases of male sterility and 12 cases of gossypol-treated volunteers wasreported.These results revealed:1),In male sterility group,the patients were divided intotwo groups according to the number of spermatozoa/ml spermatic fluid.The average percentageof LDHx activity of two groups showed no significant difference(P>0.05).But they wereapparently less than that of the normal(42.6%);2),In gossypol-treated group,the LDHxactivity showed marked decrease(even zero).The gossypol inhibited the activity of LDHx.A lowering in the relative activity of LDHx or its total absence would certainly reflecta corresponding change in the function of the spermatozoa.
