【Abstract】 Measuremnt of the mental foramen in 523 modern adult mandibles with 1046 sides was performed. The results obtained as follows: a. The shape of the mental foramen is variable, but in most cases (56.26 ±1.54%), it has been found to be oval; b. The mental foramen was found to be directed postero-superiorly over half of the cases(61. 00±1. 93% ); C. In most of the cases the positions of both mental foramen and dental root apex are below the lower root apex (68.45±1.74%); d. In majority of the cases, the mental foramen is below and in line with the lower second premolar (60.32±1.95%); e. Of 523 cases, accessory mental foramen was found in 156 cases, the rate of emresion is 14.91%; the number of the foramen is one in most cases and none is more than three; moreover, in majority of the cases (156 cases with 192 foramina)accessory mental foramina are below and in the line about the lower 2nd premolar-20.83%, and thn situation of the rest is less in occurrence, but none is in line of the 3rd molar.更多还原
