【Abstract】 In this work, the flow field in a converter bath caused by top-blown imping gas jet is studied by using a physical model together with method of numerical simulation. The numerical simulation uses vorticity an 3 stream function as chief dependent variables and k-ε tubulence two equations model. To the main boundary condition, i.e. the bath free surface with the cavity as its characteristics, a semiempirical boundary condition equation is used, which expresses the mechanism of the flow field and the geometrical form of the ’bath free surface, and involves the. chief geometrical parameters of the cavity and bath. The results obtained by numerical simulation is in agreement with those obtained from experiments.
