【Abstract】 Recently, some main rubble mound breakwaters in the world, including west Breakwater-Sines, were damaged by storm waves. Some specialists have investigated them and drawn a conclusion that the action of irregular wave, especially the grouping wave, is one of the main factors of damage. The actions of the wave length and the wave irregularity on the stability of the armor unit have been studied through the regular, irregular and grouping wave test. The test results show that the equivalent wave height of the regular wave is almost equal to H1/10 of the irregular wave.
