INFLUENCE OF PANCREATIC POLYPEPTIDE AND VASOACTIVE INTESTINAL PEPTIDE ON SUPERIOR MESENTERIC ARTERY OCCLUSION SHOCK
【Abstract】 The role of gut hormones in the pathogenesis of shock was studied on rabbit’s superior mesenteric artery occlusion(SMAO) shock model, observing the effect of perfusion of 0.2 μg/kg of pancreatic polypeptide (PP) and of 0.2 μg/kg of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) via femoral vein or SMA on shock process. The result showed that intravenous perfusion of these two hormones exerted no significant influence on the shock process; while PP perfusion via SMA significantly relieved animals from isehemic intestinal tissue damage and improved its prognosis. In contrast with PP perfusion, VIP perfused via SMA significantly deteriorated shocked intestine. The results suggest that PP, as a local gut hormone, may have protective effect on shock animals, but VIP, in the contrary, may take part in the pathogenesis of SMAO shock.
