【Abstract】 A method for measuring pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) by right cardiac cathter in rats was reported. A 13cm long polyethylene tube(OD 0.9mm) with timing tip was used as the cardiac catheter.In general, it takes about 3-15 minutes to manipulate the catheter from the right external jugular vein into tbe pulmoary artery without any introducer. The percentage of success is more than 95%.The mean PAP measured in 30 normal rats is 19.1 ± 0.4mmHg.The average systolic and diastolic pressures are 23.2 ±0.7 and 15.0± 0.5mmHg respectively.These data are similar to that reported in literature.
