【Abstract】 Mountain region of the Taihang Ranges comprising 30% of the total area of hilly country in Hebei province is of complicated topography with its undulating hills. It belongs to semi-humid temperate zone,with mean annual air temperature of 8-131℃, and mean annual precipitation of 550- 700 mm occurring mostly in the hot season, which are favourable to plant growth, broad-leaved trees in particular.The area abounds in natural resources, and possesses enormous potentialities for the development of production of fruit and nuts, silkworm breeding and animal husbandry.Prior to the rise of the Qing Dynasty in the 16th century, the area was densely forested, but it left us by liberation in 1949 with only 2-6 % plant cover. This has now been increased to 10% or so, but is still below the average percentage throughout the country. The following problems should be heeded to in afforestation of the Taihang Mts.:( 1 ) Trees should be planted together with bushes and grasses. (2) Protection Forest should play a main role, with appropriate development of timber, economic and fuel forest. ( 3 ) Afforestation is to be undertaken in the main, supplemented by measures to close the mountain slopes to grazing and fuel gathering. ( 4 ) Biological measures are to be resorted to in the main, coordinated by engineering constructions.更多还原
