【Abstract】 Yu & Wu (1959) reported that the chigger mite Lepto-trombidium deliense of Pintang Island, Fujian have two types. They named them type A and type B of L. deliense. Through several expriments done by the first author of the present paper and his colleagues during 1962-64 and the survey made in recent years, the authors deemed that type A is a new species of the subgenus Leptotrombidium and give the name Leptotrombidium rubellum, sp. nov. The word rubellum refers to the color of their living specimens. Type specimen collected off Rattus rattoides exiguus from the suburbs of Quanzhou City on July 2, 1988. 4 paratypes off the same host and 5 paratypes off the same host species from Pintang on August 1957 were obtained.
