An Experimental Study of Ventricular Fibrillation:The Effect of Catecholamines on Electric Activity of Rabbit Myocardium Pretreated with Dessicated Thyroid
【Abstract】 Amodel of ventricular fibrillation was produced in rabbits by administering dessicated thyroid gland plus catecholamines. Dessicated thyroid was given orally with a dose of 0.25gm/kg for eight days and then 50μg/kg adrenaline or noradrenaline was injected to each rabbit.VF occured in one of five normal rabbits after intravenous NA. But the incidence of VF was highly increased in those groups injection of A or pretreated with dessicated thyroid.Four of five occured VF. The difference was significant. The result demonstrated that the arrhythmic effect of catecholamines on the cardiac muscle can be highly potentiated by an excess of thyroid hormone. It indicated that VF was a form of pathologic electric activity appeared several minutes after development of cardiac necrosis induced by the above mentioned 2 hormones, rather than a specificpathologic process. The complex factor composed by these hormones seems to be a rather strong endogenic pathogenic factor. This may participate in precipitating human primary VF.
