【Abstract】 Accoding to the method of Wibel,the percentage of the frontal cortex which is nucleus and the number of neuroblasts per unit volume of cortex,using an ocular grid at 400xmm agnification,have been measured at 16,17,18,19,20,days of fetus rats after their mothers were fed for 8 months in severeendemic cretinism area. The results show that the per centage of matrix layer cells of fetal brain in lower iodine diet ( LID ) group is significantly higher than that of cantrol group ( P<0.001 ) at 17 days of gestation.The number of neuroblast per unit volume and per centage of cortex plate in LID group is significantly higher than that of control group(P<0.001)at 18,19,20 days of gestation.The thick of cortex becomes thiner in LID group than that of control group at 20 days of gestation.These suggestthe effect of iodine deficiency on the pro liferation and migration of neuroblasts.
