OBSERVATION OF THE IONOSPHERIC ELECTRON CONTENT ABOVE AND BELOW THE F2-REGION PEAK AT WUCHANG, CHINA

【摘要】 <正> Ionospheric electron content results NF derived from the continuous measurementsof Faraday rotation at Wuchang, China, using ETS-II beacon signal of 136 MHz aredescribed for the period April 1980 through February 1982. In order to find outthe contribution of the electron content Nb below the F2 peak to the ionosphericelectron content NF, more than 2500 ionograms obtained simultaneously at the samestation are analyzed. The daily variation of NF, Nb and the peak density Nmax showthat the wave-like disturbances sometimes are very different at different altitudes asis expected from the propagation theory of atmospheric gravity waves, and theirseasonal varistions show clearly the characteristics of both the Appleton anomaly andthe December anomaly. The ratio Na/Nb is affected by the height variation of maxi-mum net ion production during the daytime and by the change of exospheric tempera-ture in the period 1200-2200 LT.
