内蒙红山—八里罕断裂带地质特征及其地震活动性

【Abstract】 The Hongshan-Balihan fault zone remains to be active over a long period and its mechanical property undergoes changes since late Jurassic. During late Jurassic-early Cretaceous, its mechanical property was shear-tensional. At the end of early Cretaceous, it was shear-pressuring. In late Cretaceous-Neogene, it was shear-tensional. Since mid-Pleistocene, it has been shear-tensional.The Hongshan-Balihan fault zone has undergone recently strong faulting which led to earthquake occurrences. Seismicity is strong at its southern segment and weak at its northern segment. The difference between the two segments is due to their diffenent medium properties. The above-mentioned should be taken into consideration when discussing seismic zoning and also when identifying earthquake intensity in the region.
