【Abstract】 Five hundred and eleven cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma were treated with irra-diation at the Cancer Hospital of the Shanghai First Medical College from January toDecember 1973. The absolute survival rate was 54%. Different modes of radiation treatment, the isodose distribution and indications forirradiation were emphasized. The most common causes of failure of treatment were distantmetastases, recurrence in the nasopharyngeal cavity and of lymph nodes of neck, andradiation myelitis of the cervical cord. Radiation injury of brain and cervical cord may beavoided by using separate fields of irradiation of the head and neck, with ⁶⁰Co irradiation of the neck through tangential frontal field followed by direct conventional irradiation. It is obvious that control of the primary nasopharyngeal tumor is related to the size ofthe irradiation fields, choice of main and accessary portals and dosage assignation.更多还原
