【Abstract】 In this paper the synthesis of ethyl N—(2,4—xylyl) formimidate by the reaction of ethyl orthoformate with 2, 4—xylidine in the presence of acid catalyst is studied. The yield may go up from the reported 70% to more than 90% by means of increasing the temperature and the ratio of ethyl orthoformate to 2,4—xylidine, of catalyzing with hydrochloric acid and of using the distillation in place of the vacuum distillation to remove the ethanol from the reaction mixture as soon as it formed. The excess ethyl orthoformate can be recovered and used again. By-products, N, N’—di (2,4—xylyl) formamidine and ethanol, can be used for the synthesis of demanded ethyl N—(2,4—xylyl) formimidate and ethyl orthoformate respectively.更多还原
