【Abstract】 The incidence of iron deficiency anemia(IDA)is high in childhood.Its morbidityin some areas of our contry is up to 40.5-58.2%.There are two entirely differentpoint of views about the incidence of infections in IDA children,and there are onlya few reports concerning this problem in our domestic literatures.In the investigationof anemia in childhood from January to May of 1982,we compared the incidences ofinfectious diseases in two groups of 97 children each;one with IDA and the otherwithout IDA.In order to clarify the causes of the infections in IDA children.someimmunology investigations had been done.In our data,the morbidity of IDA in chil-dren before 7 years old was 54.2%.The incidence of infections diseases was higher inthe IDA group than in the control group,especially there was a very significantdifference in the incidence of repeated infections between the two groups.Laboratorytests revealed that there was no significant difference in humoral immunity such asimmunoglobins(IgG,IgA,IgM)and complements(C3,CH50)in the two groups.ThereWas a positive correlation between the level of serum transferrin and the degreeof anemia,but no correlation between the level of serum transferrin and the cell-mediated immunity:the counts of T cell in the groups of anemia and that withoutanemia were similar,they were all in the normal range.The negative rate of PHAintracutaneous test was higher in anemia group than in the control.For thisreason we think that some functions of the cell-mediated immunity was impaired inIDA children,which may cause the increased susceptibility to infections.Our resultsare similar to those reported by most specialists abroad.We thought that it is impor-tant to treat IDA as early as possible.in order to build up the resistance of theindividual against infections and thus providing a solid foundation for growth anddevelopment of these children.更多还原
