【Abstract】 Compound rugose corals dealt with in the present paper were collected from the Upper Carboniferous and Lower Permian in the Yecheng-Pishan area in the Western Kunlun Mountains, Xinjiang. They contain 5 genera and 7 species, among which 1 genus and 6 species are new. The horizons of their distribution are as follows (in ascending order):Upper Carboniferous:Kalawuyi Formation (Profusulinella zone)Ivanovia sangzhuensis (sp. nov.)Azigan Formation (Fusulina-Fusulinella zone)Heritschioides newsymmetricus (sp. nov.)Protoivanovia keziliqimanensis (sp. nov.)Protoivanovia gigantocysta (sp. nov.)Tahaqi Formation (Triticites zone)Ivanovia ambl ycysta (sp. nov.)Lytvophyllum mengi (Lee et Yü)Lower Permian:Keziliqiman Formation (Eaparafusulina zone)Eowentzelellites kunlunshanensis (gen. et sp. nov.)The description of the new genus is given as follows:Eowentzelellites (gen. nov.)Type species: Eowentzellites kunlunshanensis (gen. et sp. nov.).Diagnosis: Massive compound corals, thin disk in shape;corallites polygonal; the epitheca partially or mostly disappears, so that the cystosepiments or septa of adjacent corallites contact. There are two to three cycles of septa in the nepionic to neanic stages and three to four cycles in the ephebic stage. Axial structure simple, composed of a medial plate, a few radial plates and an oblique plate or of a medial plate alone. Calcareous matter in columnellae thickens; dissepimentarium wide;tabulae incline towards columnellae.Remarks:This new genus is similar to Szechuanophyllum Wang in some features, but the epitheca of the new genus partially or mostly disappears and its columnellae are simeple; while Szechuanophyllum has a complete epitheca and a "dibunophylloid"axial structure. The new genus also closely resembies Wentzelellites Wu from the lower Permian, but differs from the latter in that its columnellae are simple and that 4 cycles of septa are developed in some parts. Praewentzelella Minato et Kata differs from the new genus in that its columnellae are of "waagenophylloid"type and that it is represented by fasciculate compound corals.
