【Abstract】 After an investigation of the occurrence, development, completion, diffusion and disappearance of the wavy pattern on lamb skin of the Huyang Sheep in the embryonic stage from a morphological point of view, it has been revealed that the formation of this wavy pattern is governed by various genetic factors, but closely correlated with the wrinkles of the lamb skin. The development of the wrinkles of skin in the foetal stage of this breed of sheep is very prominent, and the wrinkles of skin so formed together with the growth of the fur coat attached to the skin are probably the basis characterized by the formation of the "S" curls which will further constitute the wavy pattern on lamb skin of aforementioned. In the development stage, whether early or late, of the wrinkles of lamb skin, their numbers, shapes of arrangement, degrees in prominence and distances between each other are different with various individual foetuses and their locations. Such differences are probably the main causes to produce variations in the distribution, length, width, shape of arrangement and degree in prominence of the wavy pattern on lamb skin, and all of these may affect the quality of the fur coat in various ways. The development of the Huyang sheep’s wavy skin pattern can be divided into five stages: (a) The preliminary straight and erect wool stage, (b) the secondary stage when primary wools of wavy pattern are formed, (c) the intermediate stage of typical wavy wools. (d) the stage when wavy wools are about to diffuse and (e) the final stage when wavy wools are going to disappear eventually. The so-called wavy wools are just the ones which are characteristical to the breed itself and represent the peak of their formation and development. Other wavy wools are either the antecedance of the typical wavy wools formation, or the type from which the wools of this wavy pattern are evolved, or at last the end product of the diffusion and disappearance of such wavy wools.更多还原
