【Abstract】 An autopsy was made on a case of endemic cretinism.On microscopic changeshis central nervous system and endocrine organs were observed.1.The weight and size of the brain were below normal.The cerebral ventric-le was slightly dilated.The size of nerve cell was smaller and Nissl’s bodies incytoplasm disappeared.The myelin sheath(Weil’s staining method)looked evidentlysparse.2.Anterior pituitary showed marked hypertrophy.Basophilic cells hyperpla-sia was found.The plasma of these cells was filled with dense red—stained gran-ules (PAS staining technic).Various type of cells in the anterior pituitary observedis as follows:acidophilic cell 24.7% basophilic 18.6%;amphophilic 5.3%;chromp-holic 51.4%.3.Thyroid showed severe atrophy and dense fibrosis.There were epithelial-hyperplasia and little colloid in some follicles.Other follicles,however,conta-ined much colloid and became basophilic.4.The seminiferous tubules of the testis were very small and of irregularshape.There was hyperplasia of connective tissue around the tubules.It wasfound that a large number of Sertoli’s cells grew on the wall of seminiferous tub-ules,but spermatogemic cells and sperms could hardly be seen.In addition,enlarged parathyroid gland,adrenal cortex hyperplasia and atro-phied tnymus were found.Our findings are similar to recent reports at home and abroad.更多还原
