集成光导器件的新发展

【摘要】 单模光纤的好处虽早为人们所了解,但因技术上的困难,致使目前的光纤通信系统,仍用多模光纤。近年来对几种重要器件的研究有了新的突破,特别是集成光导器件和次微微秒脉冲发生器的研制成功,使单模光纤通信有了极美好的前景。本文先讲有关的物理效应,其次介绍调制器、开关、耦合器、滤波器、微微秒脉冲发生器等新发展的器件。所包括的内容并不全面,只不过用以引起这方面工作者更大的兴趣。

【Abstract】 The enormous information carrying capacity and the potential for carrying data very long distance with little distortion of the monomode fiber optical lightguides have been longly recognized. Rapid advances in a number of critical areas coupled with the development of integrated optical devices and sub-picosecond pulse generators make the future of monomode fiber optic communication system look increasingly bright.In this paper we shall cocentrate on the aspects of integrated optical devices. Readers interested in basic optical fibers are referred to the appropriate articles. A brief review of the physical effect pertinent to these optical devices will be given. This is followed by descriptions of some specific elements to be used in the new development such as modulators, switches, directional couplers, filters as well as sub-picosecond pulse generators. The coverage is not meant to be comprehensive. Rather, it is intended to stimulate further interests for those working in this field.
