【Abstract】 The unique bright bluish green colour of turquoise as a high-grade jade has long received wide attention. The relationship between the colour of turquoise and its composition and structure is studied in this paper on the basis of chemical data, EPR, magnetic susceptibility, and absorption spectra, The results show that the basic colour of turquoise （bright blue） is related to the existance of Cu²⁺ octahedron and the shade variation from blue through green to brown yellow is dependent on the amount of iron. EPR, susceptibility, and crystal field spectra of Cu²⁺ ion have been analysed and compared with theoretical calculations. Preliminary discussion is also given to the colour variation as a function of temperature.更多还原
