【Abstract】 This paper reports on 50 cases of atrophic gastritis which was confirmed by gastroscopy and biopsy. Gastric analysis was performed; fasting serum gastrin and parietal cell antibodies (PCAb) were determined in all these patients. There were atrophic lesions in the antrum in all these cases. In 78 per cent of these cases, only the antrum was involved. In 20 per cent, there was also involvement of the lesser curvature. Involvement of antrum and both the greater and lesser curvatures occurred in 2 per cent. Gastric analysis revealed no acidity in only one case by maximal acid output (MAO). Fasting serum gastrin was 76.86±46.5 Pg/ml. PCAb was positive in 6 per cent as compared with 9 per cent in the 45 normal controls. According to the above-mentioned results, all the 50 cases of atrophic gastritis could be classified as B type. PCAb is of no value in the classification of gastritis.更多还原
