【Abstract】 Ratooning behavior of a mid-maturing variety Yan-Hsien 203 was observed in 1980-1981, at Changsha, Hunan Province. It was found that axillary buds went through two peaks in their germination. The occurence of the first peak was synchronous with the elongation of the internodes before harvest of the first crop of this variety; the second one appeared within 3-5 days after harvest. In order to make the axillary buds on the third and fourth nodes (counting from the top of the culm) germinate well, it is better to reserve a stub about 20 cm high. It was appropriate to apply 5 jin urea per mu 7 days before and after harvesting the first crop. Fertilizing before harvest might promote budding. But post-harvest fertilizing might make the buds sturdy. Axil- lary buds of this variety are sensitive to temperature and water. hence, low temperature and rainy weather are not good for their germination.更多还原
